The Story of Creation
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth had no shape, and everything was dark—but God’s Spirit was there, ready to bring life.
Day 1:
God said, “Let there be light,” and light appeared! God saw that the light was good. He separated the light from the darkness. He called the light day and the darkness night.
Day 2:
God said, “Let there be a space to separate the waters,” and that space became the sky.
Day 3:
God gathered the waters together so that dry land could appear. He called the land earth and the gathered waters seas. Then He made plants and trees grow—each with seeds to produce more of its kind. God saw that it was good.
Day 4:
God placed lights in the sky to mark the day and night. He made the sun to shine during the day, the moon for night, and also created the stars. God saw that it was good.
Day 5:
God filled the waters with fish and sea creatures, and filled the sky with birds of every kind. God saw that it was good.
Day 6:
God made animals of all kinds—wild animals, farm animals, and tiny creatures that crawl. And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image.” He formed the first man from the dust of the ground and breathed life into him. The man came alive.
Seeing that the man needed a partner, God caused him to fall into a deep sleep. Then God took one of his ribs and made the first woman. He brought her to the man, and they were together.
God blessed them and said, “Have children and fill the earth. Take care of it. Rule over the fish, birds, and all animals.”
God gave them plants and trees for food—and gave green plants for all the animals too.
Day 7:
God looked at everything He had made—and it was very good. So on the seventh day, God rested from all His work and made that day holy.
